Translations
Translations are billed per line or by hourly rate. The number of lines of the completed written translation are counted, based on a rate of 55 strokes per line (standard line as defined in Section 11 of the German Act on the Reimbursement of Court Witnesses JVEG). Lines of 30 characters or less are combined to count as full lines. The fee also depends on the degree of difficulty of the text to be translated. The price per line ranges between €2.15 and €2.50.
Texts requiring extensive formatting may be subject to a surcharge. Examples include complicated lists, tables, or documents in non-electronic format.
Do you need your translation to be certified? This will be subject to a certification fee of up to €15.
Proofreading, terminology research, DTP, etc.
Certain jobs cannot be billed per line. For such jobs, we will charge by the hour (€69 to €105):
- Proofreading (comparison of the translation with the source text with respect to errors in integrity, accuracy of the content, spelling, punctuation, syntax, style, and making improvements if required)
- Editing (review of a German or foreign language text in terms of spelling & punctuation errors, syntax, style, logic, and making improvements if required)
- Terminology research and management
- Alignments (creation of Translation Memories from old translations)
- Translation of graphics or DTP
- Creation and editing of Quality Assurance reports (e. g. Xbench, QA Distiller, QA Checker, etc.)
- Transcription
Working on site
Assignments at the client's site are possible. Please note that not only working hours and/or days are to be reimbursed by the client, but also all costs incurred for travel, subsistence and overnight stays, as well as any possible downtime arising from travelling time/idle time.
Costs incurred for the journeys there and back shall also be billed.
Minimum charge
Please note that there is a minimum fee of €35 per order and language combination.
Surcharge for express orders
Express orders which require overtime for their completion, especially work at night and/or on weekends or public holidays, are subject to an additional fee of 50–100%. This surcharge shall also apply if work must be started as soon as the text is received, thereby interrupting work on other projects.
Delivery fees
Costs for delivering the translation by fax, e-mail, or regular inland post are generally not billed. We reserve the right to charge extra for increased additional costs that may be incurred, such as special postage, telephone/fax charges, or delivery by courier.
Re-ordering certified translations
Please note that, alongside the certification fee, we will have to charge extra for the re-ordering of a certified translation due to the time required for finding the text from our archive, printing, etc. This will be charged at the usual hourly rate. A re-ordering after more than 8 weeks is generally not provided for and we cannot guarantee that this will be possible.
